This past weekend my husband and I took a mini vacation. It was nothing fancy, however it was filled with lots of fun. We traveled about 15 miles from our home. Oh ,I am sure many of you are laughing at the thought of calling that a vacation. Our busy lives don’t give much time for big vacation, so we learned to vacation in different ways.
One of favorites is going camping, especially during the Halloween season. Now a days many camp grounds offer this special event filled with activities that are circled around the Halloween theme. We used to plan this event with extra family members camping along, always making it an even better time. However, as we all know, life changes and unfortunately people drift apart.
Our favorite place for this has always been the Monroe County KOA ( we are not paid for this). They host a site decorating contest, a pet costume contest, an adult costume contest, a family and a child pumpkin carving contest.
On Saturday morning activities begin for sectioned age groups, followed up with parties for each age group, leading to a hay ride that takes the kids to cider and donuts and then that ever dreadful wait for trick or treating.
Needless to say those 15 minutes of waiting are the longest ever, at least according to my granddaughter; Azalea and Bethany were the only kids to go along on this trip, maybe next more of our kids and grand kids will join us (yes, that is a hint to them).
We also found some time to relax and enjoy the beautiful sights. I highly recommend a simple, relaxing weekend camping. Search your local areas to find a campground that offers amenities for you and your family to enjoy. Many of them today offer camper and cabin rentals. KOA campgrounds are located in many different states (again we are not paid for the mention of this campground, we just love it and go there often).
Take your family camping today! I hope you enjoy it as much as us. Check back occasionally for tips on taking these trips and others.
