Does doing one bad thing make you a bad person?
Sixteen-year-old Emily Keller, known by the media as Keller the Killer, is accused of causing the deaths of four family members, including young children. Emily is one of the youngest females to be accused of a crime so heinous, making this the nation’s biggest trial of the year. But what really happened that fateful night―and who’s responsible―is anything but straightforward.
Living in a trailer park in Baltimore with her twin brother and alcoholic mother, Emily’s life hasn’t been easy. She’s had to grow up fast, and like any teen, has made questionable decisions in a desperate attempt to fit in with her peers. Will her mistakes amount to a guilty verdict and a life in prison? It’s up to the jury to decide.
For readers who enjoy Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll, 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher, and One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus.
*Review*
Girl on Trial was a really good, but heavy read!
The book is told in current and past events; I rather liked this writing style with Girl on Trial. It worked well with the premise of Emily being tried for manslaughter.
The pace is excellent and the minute details are rather good. I really liked that Emily’s situation was more realistic than other murder mystery/thriller books I’ve read.
I liked what the author did with the mother’s character. She could have been a full-blown villain, yet she was not.
Miss Jelly was my absolute favorite character, though.
The emotion was hit or miss for me. Sometimes, I was right there with the characters, others it was pretty clinical.
The twists were done well, with only a few things being obvious to me.
Girl on Trial takes a real look at adolescence and peer pressure, as well as real consequences for your actions.
I rated Girl on Trial four stars.
