Content Warning:

Shadow Mate is a full-length paranormal romance. 17+ for dark content, steamy scenes, and
language. This is book one in a trilogy and is not a standalone. Mind the cliff.

My father traded his life for mine. And now I’m bound to an enemy.

I finally carved out a life for myself with minimal interaction with my abusive father. He might
be the alpha, but he hates me enough to leave me alone as long as I don’t make him look bad.
Until he decides to challenge another alpha and offer my life in exchange for his. Now, I’m life
bound to an enemy and I’m trapped in a strange pack.
Despite my attempts to keep my distance from my captor, I find myself drawn to him. But as we
get closer, things get more dangerous.
There’s so much more to this than it seems and I’ve ended up right in the middle. One wrong
step and it’s my life on the line. If I can’t get free of this, I’m going to end up dead and I’ll be
taking my captor with me.

*Review*

Honestly, the synopsis of Shadow Mate reminded me of those somewhat trashy pay-per-chapter books you always see ads for on social media. You know the ones. But this was so much better.

The writing style flowed pretty seamlessly and the plot stayed true. I appreciated the heads up on POV, but without the author heading the chapter I would know whose POV I was reading from, it was well done.

There is plenty of action going on almost throughout the whole book, and several plot twists. It’s pretty gripping from the start. There is most definitely content that could be triggering for some readers, so please read with caution.

The romance is pretty slow burn, with some steamier content thrown in. I have mixed feelings when it comes to Luke and Owen. Without spoilers.. ugh. Owen was a serious prick in the beginning, but that ending. I really cannot wait to see what becomes of him in Captive Fate, book two.

I’m curious to see Morgan come into her power? magic? seeing as how she is the alpha’s daughter. Same with Luke. His magic/wolf is very unique and I’d love to read more about it.

I rather enjoyed that the author included other paranormal/supernatural beings, such as witches and demons – as well as them having a pretty significate roll in the story, instead of just filler. Jasmine has the promise to be a pretty powerful witch one day, I hope she gets the HEA she deserves, especially if it includes an adorably scary witch from the Lost Pack territory.

I rated Shadow Mate four stars.

Alexis Calder writes sassy heroines and sexy heroes with a sprinkle of sarcasm. She lives in the
Rockies and drinks far too much coffee and just the right amount of wine.
